Wilder Alison’s open towel edition was developed in the context of the exhibition Soft Power curated by Daniel Milnes and allows their art and working practice to enter into everyday rituals: Being wrapped in it after a bath or shower, using it as a blanket, or packing it for the next beach vacation. With the towels, Alison echoes the formal language of their wool paintings and reflects upon the process of their making.
“The wool is often soaking wet and dripping, and there is water everywhere in the studio. Furthermore, the original inspiration for these paintings was a text by Monique Wittig called ‘The Lesbian Body’, which is quite corporeal and visceral. For all of these reasons, it made sense to me to make an object that is meant to cycle between wetness and dryness in relation to the body.” (Wilder Alison)

- Detail:
- 100 × 181(+5) cm
- 100% organic cotton
- Machine wash at 40°C or lower to care for the fabric — and the planet. Do not bleach. Steam iron without pressing the fabric. Dry on a line or machine dry at low temperature
- If a thread becomes loose, cut the thread instead of pulling to prevent further damage.
- The towels are knitted, not woven. As with other knitted fabrics, they have a tendency to deform after a wash. You can give your fabric a light stretch back into shape while it’s still wet to retain its original shape. With each wash, the fabric improves absorption while keeping its softness.
